Having a W.O.W. Moment

Seriously.

I’m having a wow moment for this weight on Wednesday post.
It’s Wednesday so having an accountability factor includes posting on Wed.
I know, I’ve been slack at times. Between being a Mom, Wife, and full time coordinator for a non profit,
I get swamped, but I keep telling myself, that is no reason not to post (I have to convince myself) .

This morning, I decided I was going to get on the scale to see where I was.
When I stepped on the scale, I was taken back!
I think I gulped really hard, blinked my eyes a few times, and looked again.

“This can’t be right!” , I thought.
How have I managed to pick up pounds again?

I got back on the scale (like it was going to say something different),
and this time it was even more than the first time!
(I think I weighed myself 4 times this morning)

I’m not going to lie. I was disappointed in myself because I work so hard.

However, instead of sulking, I decided to look over my plan, and figure out what I was doing wrong.

A few things I found:

I’m not eating enough at breakfast.
Not eating enough leads me to sometimes overeating at lunch.
I sometimes eat too late.
I sometimes skip meals without even realizing it.

All these issues lead me to sabotaging my own success.

So it’s time to do something new.
I’m doing better with the snack thing, although there is still always a way to improve.

I’m so serious about this weight loss, and I want to see myself change.
I’ve gotten stronger, but it’s time to make the scale move more!

Stay motivated folks! It’s hard, but we can do it!!!

WOW: So Far It’s Working!

It just dawned on me that I had yet to update you of the progress I made so far in a month:

7 lbs down
9.65 inches lost
Feelin Great
Feelin Good

I meant to update you a few weeks back, but my exhaustion got in the way!!

Many of you have been asking, my thoughts on the fitbit.
So far I’m enjoying my flex.
On days where I don’t workout, I push myself to at least get my steps in!
I think this helps me to be more active, and not just to get comfortable sitting on the couch.

As far as my workouts, My new schedule is:

Monday- Zumba/Elliptical
Tuesday- Tabata
Wednesday- Zumba
Thursday-Step Pump
Friday- Cardio Sculpt

On Saturdays and Sundays, I try to get out and about with my son to get my steps in and to have some fun!
I’m still actively using My Fitness Pal and find that it helps me to be more aware of what I’m eating!

I feel as if I am truly committed now! Last week, the people I usually workout with were not there, however I showed up!
I think the goal is to show up and do what you can even when you don’t feel like it! Sometimes it is hard!

Typically my friend Peter and I do Zumba, however we invited a friend this time!
The class was a little bit harder than usual, but as the instructor (Hey April!)said,
“You have to work hard, and it’s okay to be a little bit uncomfortable, that’s what gets results!

So I’m going to keep it moving with my Fitbit, My Fitness Pal and schedule! Ill keep you posted with results!
I feel as if I’m up this week (female problems), but Ill continue to update you on my progress and encourage you
to get in the best shape of your life! We can do it together!!!

Pray for me because I’ve only worn them 3 times and I don’t know how I feel about them yet!!!

Mommy Mondays (MM): Hello to the NEW Tired.

I know. It’s been 2 weeks.
I haven’t posted anything.
I’m exhausted.
More so, than I have ever been!

I’ve been fighting Bronchitis for about a week now,
and let me tell you, being mommy and sick don’t mix.
So how do you pull through?

You put on a big ol’ smile and rub the sleep crust out of your eyes,
ready to give big hugs, kisses,and tend to your child. That’s what you do.

You also, take the time to get better if you have loved ones around that will allow you to do so.
Last night, I laughed because I was walking in a bit of a trance, and I remember telling my husband,
I’m exhausted, if the baby wakes and you need me, I will come, but for now, I need sleep!

I’m telling you all of this, to remind you that IF and when you can, take breaks. Rest. Get sleep.
I know sometimes in between being mommy, wife, friend, co worker, etc it seems as if nothing will give, but just take your time,
it will.

I remember being a new mom when Christian needed me for every little thing. Then there were those times, he would just cry and he didn’t
want anyone but mommy. I remember being so tired, so exhausted, thinking that the light at the end of the tunnel would never come, but it did.
It just took time
So for this Mommy Monday, I just want to encourage you to get your rest. Sometimes you need a break, and that’s okay.
As parents sometimes we feel guilty, for wanting a second to ourselves, or a moment of rest, but I think it’s something that we all need.
So rest mommies.. I’m sure going to make sure I get my rest this week! I’ve gotta get rid of this Bronchitis!!!

Weight on Wednesday

Of course. I’m sure you are thinking, Aren’t You Always Back at it?

Think what you want to, but I will be the first to say that this constant battle to get fit along with my love/hate relationship with food and the gym makes losing weight or getting in great shape, pretty tricky. I believe you have to find what works for you. So what it’s taking me a little longer to find that “thing”. However, I do have a bit of motivation. I have a wedding to go to in September along with some other exciting events and I want to get in the best shape I can for them. So what have I been up to?

I’m back on this My Fitness Pal kick. I know, I know, it gets annoying, it’s so easy to forget, but now I have the app in my phone so I have no excuse. Not to mention, I love how aware My Fitness Pal makes you of what you are actually putting in your body. It makes you think twice before grabbing another cookie.

I invested in a FitBit Flex.

At first, I wasn’t sure about it. I hated the fact that these random dots came across the screen. I longed for a screen that truly explained everything, but Day 3 of wearing it, It’s kinda grown on me. I understand the dots speak their own language and I’ve begun to understand it quite well. I love how a slight tap puts me in active mode, meaning I’m exercising. I also love how at night I can put my sleep mode on, and it actually gives me a sleep report- how long I was restless, how long I actually slept, etc. I didn’t think I’d really care for this feature, but I do! It also tracks my steps, which is pretty cool! It’s actually made me want to get more active. When my steps are low, I know it’s time for me to get up and do some walking. This is very beneficial for me since I have a desk job primarily. Oh and the coolest thing? It’ syncs with my fitness pal. It even gives me credit for extra calories I’ve burned that I was unaware of. It also counts the calories burned TOTAL, not just in exercise. I love all of the information I get from the app and my fitbit account.

I’m trying to get more active. I still love my Zumba but I know that I need to switch it up from time to time. Thanks to my husband (it’s like having a personal trainer in the house), I always have someone to encourage me and keep me going along with some great encouraging friends! I also like getting fit tips from Hopes for Health! She’s in such great shape and will push you to get fit! Check her out!
I’m also trying to make better food choices. I keep saying I’m going to meal prep (I need to make it happen). I’m telling you planning ahead is the trick. Not that I’ve made bad choices, but it would be a lot easier if I just brought my food. However, I’m near a lot of great places to eat I’ve made some good choices. This week for lunch I’ve had, soup, Grilled fish and green beans,  grilled chicken tacos. Don’t worry, you will never see me turn into a “I don’t eat this, I don’t eat that” kinda person because I don’t believe that is anything I would personally stick to. I’m just like so many of you! I love cheese dip, pasta, Mexican food, Chinese food, etc.. But loving it in moderation is what I need to do.

As far as the scale, as I told you guys awhile ago in my NO SCALE post, I’m done with the scale. I still get on it from time to time, but I don’t let it define me. I use measurements. In fact, I have a calendar that I keep all of my measurements on to track progress..

So yes, I’m back at it with all this new stuff. Determined to find what works for me, after all that’s the key to this whole healthy living/weight loss thing.

James Henry

Handsome Boy isn’t he?

Today I went with my husband to this beautiful baby boy’s funeral. He was only 2 days shy of being 8 months.
You see,  earlier on, James parents noticed he had a cough that wouldn’t go away but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
They visited doctor after doctor, and tried to find a solution.
It seemed just like yesterday that James’ wonderful parents, David and Kristy came to our house for dinner.
They were filled with excitement for the arrival of their little one! They already have a beautiful 3 year old daughter, and were looking forward to James’ arrival and then he was born March 19.
I had the lovely chance to officially meet James a month ago at the Susan G. Komen Race.

He had these beautiful indescribable eyes, and he was a very laid back but happy baby. He had the cutest little smile and I enjoyed the time we shared.
When my husband and I found out that they finally knew what was wrong, we prayed for the family. Apparently James had Severe combined immunodeficiency better known as “SCID” . SCID has also been deemed “the bubble boy disease” since those with it are very vulnerable to infectious diseases. In 1976, a movie called, “The Boy In the Plastic Bubble” was released based on the life of a young child who lived with SCID.

Poor lil James had SCID, and in the end it took his life. So why am I sharing this with you?

Because the parents said today that if you know of someone with a newborn to have their child tested for SCID. It is very rare, only 1 in 100,000 children typically have it, but why not just find out? The parents gave us ribbons to wear in James honor, and they are passionate about not only sharing their faith, but getting the word out….

I am so sorry for their loss, and I’m so sorry that we won’t get to see James grow up to his full potential, but what I can do is pass the message along, and encourage others to find out about SCIDS and what they can do to help.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the SCID Angels 4 Life Foundation. Their mission is to increase awareness, benefit research, and provide parent and family education for those affected by SCID.

So today’s post goes out to James Henry. That his legacy will live on and people will get their newborns tested for scids and that other children will have a chance. The Virus took over so fast, poor James wasn’t able to fight it off, but with his life, he will touch many others, and hopefully others will get the word out.

I can’t imagine what the parents are going through, but I know that God has a plan and has them wrapped in his loving arms while he holds lil James in his presence…

Weight, No Stress!

Yep, it’s another W.O.W. post.
I know I always spend Wednesdays talking about weight loss and my journey in trying to lose it, but I wanted us to keep something in mind…

While we are all trying our best to stay healthy and be in the best shape of our lives, we can’t worry ourselves to death in the meantime. I’ve been traveling a lot lately, and trying to stay on track but it is truly hard! I’m making sure to get my water intake, and getting back on the workout track!

So far, I’ve lost quite a few inches although the pounds aren’t shedding as fast as I would like them to do! But, you know what, I’m not gonna stress it… In fact, Ladies, let’s look at ourselves in the mirror and celebrate ourselves despite the work we still have to do! It takes hard work and dedication, and we can’t stress out about it! So today, I wanted to leave with you some motivational thoughts when it comes to this weight loss thing! We will conquer it together!!!

W.O.W. – Vacation Come Back

The last month I’ve been super busy which is why I’ve been super ghost on my blog, but I love you all!!! Can you blame me for being ghost? Just look….

Enjoyin the Beach…

While I truly enjoyed myself, and the beach… I made a point to go to all of my favorite places to eat! Let me tell you, If you are in Wilmington, NC or ever plan to go there, you must eat at Basics, Indochine, College Deli, and Krazys! Those are hands down my favorite places to eat! Not to mention, my trip wouldn’t have been ever so great without Rita’s Water Ice! They need those places everywhere! I had to have two of them when I was home!!!!

Only thing is, now I’m back to my home in AR, and Im feeling as puffy and stuffy as ever. So now, I’m on my Vacation Come Back! I know a lot of people try to be mindful and healthy while on Vacation, but that’s no fun to me! I say enjoy it, and try to get as much exercise as you can while on Vacay. But if you gain a few, just make sure to get back on track and do what you can to be in the best shape. I was distraught to find I had gained 4 pounds, but I didn’t beat myself up for it…. In fact I made a plan…

My Vacation ComeBack Plan:

Increase my water intake even more to Flulsh my system
Cut back some additional calories for the first few weeks
Push myself even harder in workouts (which I should do anyways)
Try some new fruits (This is a big step for me)
Cook more (this is a mission my hubby and I have been working on!)

While on my first work trip, I didn’t gain anything because I was walking about 4-5 miles a day, but for vacation?
Yes! It was fun and relaxation!
So I’m working on my come back!
