Easter Remembrance

15 Apr

It’s that time of year again when all the little girls are  getting ready to be dolled up in brand new dresses and little boys will be running around scuffing up those brand new church shoes. Ladies have picked out their perfect outfit, some with the final touch of a perfect hat, as the men prepare to get suited up  a in their Sundays best. So many of us fixated with our eyes on our appearance, and I can’t take my eyes off the cross.

I always get super emotional around Easter and I just can’t help it. The idea; the thought; the emotion behind someone dying for me, is more than my heart can even handle at times.

I find myself going through the gospel from time to time  in disbelief, because we all know how flaky human beings can be at times, and even when Jesus asked God to “take this cup from me” he didn’t allow temptation or fear to overwhelm him. He carried out what was set before him and if that isn’t love, I don’t know what is.

Today, as we remember the power of the cross and the depth of his love, let us not forget what it means:

1. Jesus died for us because God loves us so much. (John 3:16) Sin was keeping us from the world, and Jesus’ death became the bridge back to our father and that bridge is ALWAYS open, which means nothing we can say or do will keep us from him.

2. God isn’t asking us to be perfect, he doesn’t expect us to be perfect ( he is) so don’t put expectations on yourself that God doesn’t even have for you! (I will get into this point more a few lines down)

3.  God loves everyone ( go back to point one). We aren’t here to justify what is right or wrong, we are here to love and point people to the word, let them see for themselves how much God loves them and discover truth. Don’t let a “view” or “mindset” distort who God is for others. He’s pretty awesome, and here for errybody (yes, I meant it like that).

4. God wants what is best for you. That doesn’t mean life will be easy. Everything works for the good of the Lord ( Romans 8:28) Not some things, sometimes, on occasion, EVERYTHING. So just hold on, he’ll pull you through.

5. God isn’t keeping score. He isn’t condemning  u for what you have done. ((Romans 8:1) There arent bonus love points for being a pastor and news flash, there are no GOOD christians.  There is no such thing. So stop beating yourself up and telling yourself you need to be a “better” Christian. Love him, follow him, and keep his commandments. (And guess what, if you don’t, he still loves you).

Be encouraged, friends. Stop being so hard on yourself! Oh how he loves us and I’m so glad he does and on this Easter, I just want to remind you what that love means.  It means he loves us when we do good, when we do bad and when we are in the darkest places, his light is still shining, if you look for it. You are never too far from God, and on this Easter, I hope you feel the love our Good, Good, father has for us.

Until Next time, much Love,

Mrs.Spj:)

Well, Hello Mon…

9 Apr

Well, Hello Monday!

I don’t know why I’m so cheery. I’m truly not happy to see you. I mean I’m thanking God I have seen you, but I wish the weekend would have lasted a bit longer! I have to tell you some of the cool things I’ve been up to!

I’ve added 2 beautiful bowls to my kitchen items, thanks to those talented kids within our program who made bowls to be auctioned off to raise awareness for Hunger Relief and raise money for our organization!

Friday I got to relax a bit, then Saturday I had a very good workout doing Zumba! I pushed myself and though I craved everything at IHOP, I managed to talk myself into going home and making 2 scrambled eggs with light cheese and a little bit of honey ham. I was trying to be satisfied but not all the way full because I knew my husband would want to take his friends out to dinner later, and boy was THAT GOOD!

Pasta Copelands

A new favorite dish of mine from Copeland’s restaurant! It consists of tender shrimp, sautéed with garlic mushrooms and fresh herbs over angel hair pasta. I got a side of pirogue sauce (similar to Alfredo) to give it a bit of additional flavor and WOW! It was awesome! Combine that with good friends sharing an appetizer, what more could you ask for? I’m so glad I decided to go with light eating to allow myself to go a bit overboard for an early dinner! That’s another key factor here, I knew I wanted to go out and “cheat” a bit, so dinner was at 4 instead of later since the dish was so heavy! It was worth every last drop! I love how great the food is and the atmosphere at Copelands! Not to mention, we always get this wonderful waiter named Marcus, who simply knows how to give the best service and advice when it comes to picking a dish! There is a reason I love that place so much!

Sunday morning, my hubby cooked a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and sausage. While he experimented with the pancakes (yeah I didn’t care for them too much lol), I enjoyed the eggs and sausage. He had to work the afternoon and night of Easter, so I did spend quite some time by myself, but my lovely student, Peter, went and ate dinner with me so I wouldn’t have to be by myself:) I also had some great friends who shared messages with me, and text me so I wouldn’t be completely lonely (Thanks Tiara and Monique 🙂 I realized Holidays are very important to me, and that is why I want to spend them with the people that I love most 🙂

Well that’s it for now!

I’m working on something pretty neat right now. Ill share it with you all in a few days!!!

Until Next Time, Much Love 🙂

Emotional but Stylish

3 Apr

Hey there!

Don’t worry folks. Nothing wrong.
I just get super emotional around this time.
Don’t get me wrong, I love God 24/7 365 days but when it gets right around Easter, it’s like it hits me…
I start thinking about the sacrifice, the blood shed, the long journey. It just messes me up emotionally.
Especially because I know it was something done just for me. I can’t think of a better gift. I’m super thankful.

I’ve been a relaxed state all day. Feeling super cute! I decided to wear my sassy but comfy orange heels I told you guys about awhile ago! I think my little outfit turned out pretty cute! Orange Shoes, Orange Shirt. Yeah I’m pretty matchy matchy today but I’m loving it! It looks so wonderful with my tan khakis! I also opted for a subtle makeup look. Just a splash of coral mixed with Gold!

See! Bright and Springy! Just the way I planned! I’m learning how to mixup my wardrobe a bit. How are you bringing in Spring with your wardrobe? I’m always looking to find new tips and techniques. If you have any suggestions, please by all means share them!!! Gap has some really cute shorts, I’m eying but I haven’t made a decision yet. We shall see! I’m still trying to lose 20 plus pounds so I’m hesitant in buying too many bottoms. I want to be smart! (I’m claiming it!)

Anywho, I really have no words for today, but to tell you to enjoy the spring, fill your wardrobe with bright items and it will make you feel better. Last but not least, be thankful for the life you have. Someone died for it.

I’m going to leave this video with you. It’s such a beautiful expression of love for God. It’s one of the greatest songs on James Fortune & Fiya’s “Identity” album.

Until Next Time, Mrs. SPJ
