Lookin Good for 99

13 Jan

Today is Friday the 13th, HOWEVER today marks the day that my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

turns 99 years old! That’s right! 99 years of service and sisterhood! This year, in April, will mark my 10 years in Delta! I joined the Gamma Phi Chapter of Winston- Salem State University, and let me tell you, I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the greatest organization ever!

I decided I wanted to be a part of Delta Sigma Theta after reading about the great service these women were doing all across the world. You see, everyone has their reason for joining or wanting to be a part of a sorority, and for me Delta was just it. I’ve always had a heart for service and a passion for people. I looked at the things I was passionate about in life, and what I wanted to commit to. It was about people. I currently work in non profit, because Im’ passionate about helping others, and service is what Delta is all about.

DST is also all about sisterhood. Growing up as an only child, at times I wished there were others around and it was very quiet. When I became a Delta that ALL CHANGED! I found myself surrounded by so many strong supportive women, mainly African American women, and that was something tremendous to see.  It’s like I use to always hear that in this world, it was tough enough to be a woman, and if you are black, well that was even harder. I am so honored to be a part of an organization that supports Strong Black Women and shows them in a positive light doing so many wonderful things. I know that when I was in college, me and my sorors hung tight and knew how to have a good time!

Some of my LS havin fun before our 1st Stepshow 🙂

We also knew how to step into a party and turn it out!

There are so many people who have things to say about sororities that are negative. They call them cults, they say people get letters just to feel important or popular, or that they aren’t Christian. These statements couldn’t be even more false. If you have read my blog, you know I love God along with so many more of my sorors. DST is a Christian based Organization, and doesn’t involve anything satanic. I didn’t join to feel popular or important, because to me that doesn’t matter. I joined because I wanted to be a part of something even bigger than myself doing good in the community. I could have done it without joining an organization, but joining Delta allowed me and so many others to make a large impact and also to grow as a person. I learned what true sisterhood stood for, and that’s a gift that I will never take for granted.

I want to wish all those beautiful Deltas out there a HAPPY Founder’s DAY! Your lookin good for 99! Also a special shoutout to my lovely sorors, the Gamma Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Also a shout out to my bestie who is also a Delta!

I’m so blessed to be a member of one of the finest black sororities in the world!

While I’m happy about reaching another founder’s day, I am also very sad because my favorite show that I’ve been watching for at least 20 years is going off the air. I will talk more about it pretty soon! Looking forward to going home and eating some leftovers from last night! My Peppers & Steak Combo was so delicious!!

Yes looking forward to eating this again tonight! It’s a simple recipe! Some Beef for stewing, peppers & onion mix, and brown gravy! Add some rice and there you go! Looking forward to watching this as I mourn my beloved show 😦

Until Next Time, Much Love,

Mrs. SPJ 🙂
