Praise Party

4 Jan

So yesterday I got some not so great news about something that happened in a very close friend’s life. This person is very close to me and so my heart went out to them. However, the song ” My Help” popped into my head. It was written based on Psalm 121 and I love the first few lines of the song:

” I will lift up mine eyes to the hills from whence cometh my help,
My help cometh from the Lord.
The Lord Which made heaven and earth”

The song is simple but very powerful. It’s basically saying I will look up to God far any help and I know that I can  depend on him.  This song is a favorite of  my close friends. I thought, geez I need to send them this song but I don’t know if they will get it. How can I make them get it immediately. Then it hit me, I can send it in a text! So I clicked on my voice recorder on my phone and recorded myself singing it on my phone and sent it to my friend who was very touched by it.  Here is the song if you have not ever heard it before…

Anywho, after that I started thinking about how powerful and transforming gospel singing is. How it just has the ability to comfort you, to touch you, to comfort you. You could be going through something, and a gospel song can just be that one thing you need to hear at that time.  Then I started doing some searching on youtube and came across some powerful gospel singing.

First, this little boy Isaiah singing one of my favorite gospel songs,  “Lord I’m available to you”. I love how he starts off nervous and then by the end of the song he is just truly giving God all the glory and praise.  Amazing! Goes to show you God will use anybody to touch others!

After getting so wrapped up in this boys singing I then started thinking about how not only does gospel have a way of touching lives but praise dancing. I then went to the video of my sister and I praise dancing to “Never Lost My Praise”.  There was just soemthing about that song and I knew when putting together the moves for this piece that it would touch so many others. Here it is:

Then I saw this video and the tears just came.

I tried to stop them, but this touched me so much. I don’t think it is simply because of the song or her moves but just the profoundness of this young girl being able to praise dance at her own Mother’s funeral. If that isn’t praising God no matter what the circumstance is, I don’t know what is. I can tell you one thing, I wouldn’t be able to do it and I think the video simply shows the power that God can give us to do what may seem impossible and also the strength to keep going when our circumstances our grim. There’s a true praise in that.

Then towards  the end of the night, I was listening to Israel & New Breed’s, “Alpha & Omega” and “To Worship you I live”  which are both powerful and beautiful songs!!!!

How can you NOT love that song? Then I went back to the original song I started with, “My Help” and it led me to one of my all time favorite Gospel Songs, ” Total Praise”. There are truly no words for Total Praise all I can say is that it pretty much sums up how I feel about God. Combine that with Fantasia and you have one powerful experience there…

Whew! So as you see, I was having a quite amazing Praise Party last night.  My husband then came home and I realized I had spent 3 1/2 hours listening to Gospel, being touched by Gospel, watching praise dancers, and I realized I just had an amazing little praise party in my house. As most of you know, I don’t have a church home here in AR but Ill tell you one thing, you can praise God anywhere. You can have him impact your life anywhere. All you have to do is be open to it. Now I know you may not get to listen to every single song on my blog that I share today, but come back and listen to them when you can, and experience the power of God through music. I’m telling ya, it’s pretty awesome. Just like God is.

I just wanted to share that special lil moment I had last night with you. What songs empower you and touch you? I’d be interested in listening to even more so please, tell me the name of the song so I can hear it!!! Be blessed folks!

Hopefully reading this, you had a little praise party of your own 🙂

Until Next Time, Mrs. SPJ 🙂
