Real House. Real Wife. Real Life.

31 Jan

That’s me.
I consider myself a REAL Housewife simply because of that.
Lately, Facebook and twitter has been flooded with comments about the drama on shows such as Real Housewives of Atlanta, Basketball Wives, etc.
I just don’t get it.
I don’t understand why so many African-American women have the chance to show themselves in a positive light, yet choose to portray us as nasty, having larger than life attitudes, vindictive, greedy, and just plain rude.  It really bothers me I tell you.  Grant it, I’m not in the same economical arena that they are in, nor do I have careers similar to them (the ones that actually have careers), but I can tell you one thing.  What is portrayed on the show is not real life, and for those of you who know people who base how African-American women are solely off of this, it is inaccurate.  A lot of the women on these shows, blame the editors and producers of the show, but there is only so much that an editor can do. My life might not appear interesting enough to qualify for “high ratings” according to television standards, but I’m pretty blessed.  Here’s a snippet to my Real Housewife episode:

I have an amazing hubby who is probably the most sarcastic person in the world, but he is addicted to running and  good food. He even cooks sometimes and brings it up on a tray to our room (which makes him the world’s best husband)
I work out with an amazing group of girls and have an amazing Instructor during the week.
I have the greatest friends and family a girl could ask for, and I talk to them quite often.
I have several children in my life that I’m obsessed with (none my own) and I would secretly kidnap them all if I could (and that’s okay, their mothers wouldn’t mind)
I work day in and day out for a non-profit that is changing lives everywhere around the WORLD and the only organization like it in the U.S. (pretty awesome)
I like to hangout with friends and have dinner parties and play games that make me probably look ridiculously stupid.

That’s my life. That’s what God gave me. And I think it’s pretty awesome. My husband and I don’t always get along, but hey, that’s life. It’s not drama filled. We don’t yell at each other. I’m not screaming at my girlfriends or starting drama, or some he said/she said mess. You know why? Because that’s not real life. Real life consists of getting up everyday, thanking God for what he gave ya, and making life work no matter what your circumstances are. It’s loving and appreciating your family and friends, knowing that time is never promised, and each minute or second given is a blessing. It’s about taking what you have and making it work, and giving something back to this world. It’s about using up every minute with no regrets and making life worth it!

It’s not a drama filled episode of screaming and yelling and acting a fool. If anything, some of these shows should be an example of “how not to act”. It really kills me how some of these girls watch these shows, and try to mimic what they see, when it’s really not cute at all. I don’t even watch the shows. However, I hear about the drama on the radio, and I read about it because it is showcased everywhere! The only area that I’m guilty in is because I do love watching “The Braxtons” but that is due to my love for Toni and the sisters. There are areas in which they could improve as well.

Am I saying that I’m perfect? Absolutely not.
What I am saying though, is that we have to do better.
Not only as African American Women, but Women in general.
We have to stop beating ourselves up and participating in all this drama and getting ourselves involved in nonsense.
Let’s be role models for our sisters, cousins, daughters, future daughters, and friends. We can’t do anything about what’s on TV, but we can choose to look away, turn it off, or set examples for others..

Real House. Real Wife. Real Life. That’s ME 🙂

Until Next Time, Mrs. SPJ 🙂

A Bare Weekend!

30 Jan

Hey friends!
So I had an excellent weekend!
My husband and I received free Facials from Kiehls. They were having an event and since my husband and I love Kiehls so much, It only made sense that we would sign up! It was by far the best facial ever! My very first facial experience wasn’t that great, so I was a bit nervous, but getting one from Kiehls was so awesome, I think I’d totally get one again! After the facials, my makeup was done by Bare Escentuals and let me tell you, they did an EXCELLENT Job!  I was always hesitant in trying it, due to my obsession with Mac Foundation, but I’m telling you, I love how their products are so light but provide nice full coverage! I fell in love with their eye shadows awhile back, when Brittany at Sephora showed them to me! All I can tell you is, the products are great, and you can get their starter kit for 61 bucks! It’s awesome! The kit includes everything you need!

Customizable Get Started Kit

1 SPF 14 Foundation in Original or Matte (they will match you in the store)
1 Original Mineral Veil
1 Warmth All-Over Face Color
1 Full Flawless Face Brush
1 Flawless Application Face Brush
1 Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush
1 Get Started DVD
Brush Conditioning Shampoo

A $166 Value!

I say that’s a pretty awesome deal! Just wanted to share it with you guys! As always, I do not get paid to do these reviews nor am I giving any products! I just personally like to share good deals with friends when I find them! When Stephanie (yea same name!) was doing my makeup, I asked her to do a natural look because it’s something I’ve never really tried before. The look she gave me  was very natural and gave me like a natural glow. I was very satisfied with the products and the look.  Whatcha think?
I loved it! This picture doesn’t even truly give it justice!
I even used their products to create my look this morning!

Do you see how great their high-shine eyecolor looks with the deep greys and teals? This is Meteorite which is described as an Iced Mocha! It gives a nice sheen texture and has a lot of products for about $16. It’s now a staple in my eye shadow collection! I swear I’m turning into more of a makeup Junkie than ever before!! Are you all fans of BareMienrals makeup? Have you ever tried it? What Foundation and Makeup do you use? I’d love to know!!!

Until Next Time, Mrs. SPJ 🙂

So I’m a bit excited because,

A. It’s Friday
B. I’ve been doing alright with changing up my eating!
C. I received my Spectrum Cosmetics in the mail!

Now you guys know from reading my blog, I love makeup, but I’m always looking for more affordable products which is why I was so happy to find Spectrum Cosmetics on Etsy! I decided I was going to purchase these products, and was very pleased with their prices as many of my blog readers already know! Well I received them!! Let me just show you the beautiful colors I purchased:

Aztec, Dragonfly, Shamrock, Envy, Spring Fling

Very vibrant, and each one only cost me 3 bucks! Very affordable! When I first saw the colors I thought, “Geez these colors are beautiful! I wonder how they will look on my skin!”  Of course, you know I immediately took my eye shadow brushes because I was dying to know!! Well here is how they looked:

Spring Fling w/ a damp brush, Spring Fling, Envy, Shamrock, Dragonfly, Aztec

Beautiful right?!? I really couldn’t pick a favorite although I truly love Aztec! I realized I could create some really great looks and decided today I was going to go for the Green colors with maybe some Burgundy/Brown Liner. What do ya think?

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love it! I just wish I would have spent more time on my look this morning so you could get the total look! I did my look in about 5 minutes! The pigment is of high quality and even hours later, I’m still wearing it!

I’m telling you, this makeup is good stuff! You can even get it at a slight discount simply for saying you found out about it on this blog! I have a discount code that the creator gave, just in honor of my giveaway! Just in case you didn’t hear, Spectrum Cosmetics is  giving away 5 eye shadows in the colors of your choice to one of my faithful readers!! I think it’s an awesome giveaway! Weight On Wednesday- Shakeology!

26 Jan

It’s been a crazy  busy past 2 days, but I’ve finally managed to sit down and update all of my wonderful friends!
So for those of you who have been reading my blog for awhile, you know that sometimes on Wednesdays, I will weigh in on health and fitness in my personal life. With that being said, I’m happy to say that I’m down, 1.5 pounds since last Wednesday! I’m very happy about that since I officially didn’t start making better food choices until Monday evening. I’ve been consistently going to Zumba this week, attempting to push myself harder when working out, and trying to consume more healthy foods in my diet. I’m still trying to find new things to add to my diet, therefore I was thrilled when my Zumba instructor (love her) gave me a sample of Shakeology. She loves the stuff along with millions of others, and for that reason I just had to try!

This morning, I decided it was time to try Shakeology. It was quite easy to make! I combined 8 oz of 2% milk (you can also use water), half of a Banana, a tsp of Cinnamon, and Ice. I put all the ingredients in my Ninja Mixer and it mixed so easily! I decided to add just a little bit more milk to take some of the richness of the Chocolate out. After tasting it, I was pleasantly suprised about how creamy it was and how well it blended. It actually took me no time to get it down, and that’s a plus for me since you all know how long it takes me to consume Oatmeal! I also loved that it didn’t have a chalky taste nor some bad after taste. My husband and friends will tell you, I can be very picky and I actually enjoyed it. I could see myself replacing a few breakfast meals a week for this protein drink. The only thing is, mine was quite bland, but I blame it on me adding additional milk and Ice. I believe with the right recipe, maybe even a tsp of peanut butter every now and then, this protein shake could be absolutely delicious! Another thing is, with all the health benefits, I’m thinking why not? According to the main website, Shakeology:

Shakeology uses a proprietary blend of digestive enzymes and prebiotics to gently and efficiently eliminate toxins. Then a combination of antioxidants, phytonutrients, adaptogens, and many other rare ingredients give your body the essential nutrients you can’t get from a normal diet. You get a salad bowl’s worth of fruits and vegetables in a single glass.

Whole-food ingredients—all-natural foods that still maintain the vitamins, minerals, and fiber often stripped from highly processed foods—deliver these nutrients to help your body shed stored fat and promote optimum health.

A few of my Z Chics (Zumba friends) are thinking about taking a 30 day challenge of Shakeology to improve their overall health and see what results they get. I’m thinking of purchasing it myself, just to see how much of a difference it makes as a part of my diet lifestyle. I’m not paid by Beachbody or given any benefit in reviewing this product, and I think that is important when giving you my honest thoughts and review of this product.  I’ve always wanted to try it due to the fact a lot of my friends are huge supporters of this stuff, and if you just look at their Facebook page,  it doesn’t take too much convincing to do! I mean look what it’s compared to!

Pretty Neat Right? I think so too! It would help me out a lot since I personally don’t like to just eat Fruits and Veggies all day (lol)
I haven’t decided if I want to do Shakeology 3 days a week for the month of February or not yet. It would be cool though to go on a Shakeology Challenge, and see what results I get. I don’t know. I’m not exactly sure yet what I want to do! Whatever it is, I will share it with you!!
I have many friends that know a lot about Shakeology, and you can even get really cool recipes off of the website. If you are interested and would like more information about Shakeology, let me know! If you are interested in possibly trying it for yourself and seeing what it taste like, let me know that as well! I have several friends that would probably be more than willing to help you!  I think you have to truly judge the product for yourself to see if it is something that would work for you, but I don’t think you will be disappointed!

So what should I do? Should I try to incorporate it and see what happens? What are your thoughts? Would you like to try it? Please let me know!

Until Next Time, Mrs. SPJ 🙂
P.S.- Be on the lookout for my review of the Greenberry Shakeology. I’m a bit nervous because my friend Amber said it taste like Hamster food, but I want to give it a try as well! Ill keep ya posted!

Better Late than Never!

23 Jan

Good Morning Friends!

So recently, I’ve been feeling not too hot.  For those of you who have been following my blog, you already know this from reading a post I created not too long ago, U R What U Eat! Me feeling like crap though is all of my fault. There is no one else to blame. I’ve basically been eating food without having any thoughts to what it is that I am eating. I’ve been working my butt off in Zumba, yet my eating has not matched my fitness efforts. I vowed that today I’d rethink my eating habits, and start eating clean. I was going to go grocery shopping on Sunday (which I did), and prepare food Sunday night for the week (which did not happen). Why wasn’t I able to prepare food on Sunday? Let’s just say a wicked storm came in, and knocked out our electricity.  I thought, well hey the electricity will come back in soon and Ill be able to prepare food. However it did not come back in, until 1:20 THIS MORNING!!!! I knew that there was no way I could have baked my Apple Oatmeal Muffins unless I woke up extra extra early before work, and that was NOT happening after being cooped up on a couch waiting for the electricity to come back on!

So the journey begins today, just not this morning!!! I had no time to get breakfast or lunch together. NO THIS Is not an excuse, it just is what it is.
I plan on getting everything ready tonight, and keep you guys posted on my efforts. For those of you who want to follow another cool weight loss journey, check out my friend Steph’s blog, Losing It With Steph. She just recently had surgery to assist with her weight loss, but the rest of the work is up to her! Ill be discussing weight loss from time to time, because we all know that it’s something we all tend to deal with in one way or another! Another cool site I typically check out is Spark People. It includes some of the best free weight loss tools and tips you can imagine. I think if I truly utilize this site, it can help me in my attempt to lose weight! Again like I said, it’s free and you can sign up using your facebook login. I think that’s pretty awesome!

Do you have any cool sites or blogs that you recommend for weight loss? If so, I’d be interested in learning more about them! Also, if you missed it, I started my very first giveaway on Friday! You have until February 3rd to enter! You can read all about it and enter here: Makeup Giveaway  . On a side note, I made my very first purchase of some items from B&H Cosmetics! Ill let you know how they turn out once they arrive! Also, Ill let you know about my new Spectrum Cosmetics!!
